So Ive had enough people ask me lately "Why the hell do you do this for free?" that I decided to address the subject.... I do it for the chicks. Just ask my friend gwen. She'll tell you that open source developers are sexy.
Initially I started this site up when I was working full time at Plesk as kind of a way to field test some of the things I was playing with internally. Now I'm thinking of taking this in a new direction...
First off, let me just say that I'm committed to the idea of open source and free software. I'll continue to make and distribute packages on this site, just like I always have, for free. I do have some ideas along the lines of creating commercial components that will tie in with control panels like PSA, or webmin. Basically the same idea as PSA, a control panel for free software, but on other components (like firewalls, qos, server tuning, etc).
Its going to be a while before I get around to building that however (unless some enterprising php coders would like to team up?). In the mean time, I've added my paypal links to the site. Think of it as my digital tip jar, if you like my code.
For those of you wondering how I actually make a living, I work part time for a friends security company, and I do consulting work. Id say first and formost Im an information security specialist, and all this stuff I do in the hosting space has pretty much been a hobby. I'm also currently working on a linux firewall diagnostics book, in addition to being a volunteer for iCE and CCCP.
