And on a 1&1 note... Print E-mail

So I finally broke down and got a 1&1 server because I had to debug some kernel issues with their Fedora Core 2 distribution. Now first let me say that 1&1 has probably the most advanced provisioning and rescue system I've ever seen, whoever put that together is really first rate. If you're looking for the right way to do it, take a look at their system. My experience with their self-help system has been fantastic. That being said, I just had to call their help desk to square away some bizzaro firewall rule issue they'd set up in front of my system... and I got put on hold.... wow. wtf was that? Beeps, lots of them, painfully loud beeps that I can only describe as the written by the lowest bidder for 3rd world hold music. That sounded exactly like the kind of stuff I did on my TRS-80 in 1981. The saving grace being my speaker wasnt nearly as loud back then. On the help desk side, things were fine, my issue with their filters was resolved. My complaint here is purely about being put on hold... specifically the auditory torture they inflict upon you while being aforementioned hold state. I can only surmise from the assault upon my ears that someone hates all living things, and they are expressing themselves through hold music. Heaven forbid some Gitmo interrogator reads about this and decides to use it, the collatoral damage in human suffering that inflicting that... that... "music" would inflict boggles the mind. So if you happen to call 1and1, and they ask if they could put you on hold, tell them "For the love of god, please NO!". Note: Im not slamming you 1and1, because I know a lot of your people read my site. Im slamming your hold music person. You should punish them. They were bad. PS- someone get a sample of that. It must be saved, and shared with the rest of humanity so serve as a warning to others.
