PSA installer updates, and new 6.0 build
Written by scott
Wednesday, 03 May 2006
Many updates, this go around with the release of PSA 6.0 build030625.18. I've updated both the 6.x installer to support this latest rev (v1.1.6), and I've backported all the rcd code into the 5.x installer (v1.0.6) . This version of PSA 6 includes new features and a new theme, called Silver bullet. Screenshots follow

PSA 6.x Installer/Updater v 1.1.3 released

Massively updated the red carpet guts in the updater/installer in this release. I'm not sure I'm happy with the latest revisions of the red carpet daemon, and the new command line util, rug (replaces rc). It seems slower, and I've had communications issues with the daemon, so I've added in all sorts of checks to make sure its up and communicating. Since I've only tested it on one system (my vmware image of rh9) this could be entirely on my end. Please let me know if this one works for you, and how well.Write Comment (0 Comments)

Using Mysql 4.0.x with PSA
Written by scott

So rather than work on what I said I was going to work on, which is the remote updater thing, I was working on Endstate today. Specifically I have this part that takes a horribly long time to run (about 14 minutes). So I decided to check out mysql 4.0.x because of the query caching system, low and behold this cut the processing time of my horribly bad db process in half. So, I upgraded my PSA server. PSA 6.0 Network Auto-Installer
Written by scott

This is version 1.1 of the previous 5.0 network installer, and will automatically download and install PSA6 plus all the dependency RPM's from redhat. That means that you just run the script, you don't have to have apache, mysql, or anything else installed. It will all happen automatically. In addition I will continue to maintain the 1.0.x series as a PSA5 installer, so watch for that, Ive renamed the PSA 6 installer: psa6-install.sh

Caveats: Testing? I mock you and your testing! Ive run this a couple of times on a RH9 vmware image, set up as a server and as a personal desktop. Its possible that it could miss some things in the RPM dependency check. Tested on RH7.3? Hell no! But I think it will work. Upgrading a 5.x box, yeah it should work. Tested? Hell no! Let me know if it does :)
